About prints

I was having the idea to sell by myself my prints. This way I would have the control on the quality, the adjustement of the file for the print size, etc... also the control on the price (adjusting the prices if needed), the control on the number of prints I want to diffuse and so on... but I need to say that I didn't get too many requests and sometimes they didn't even give any result.

So I would like to hear about you my dear friends and followers. Do you think that if my prints were on sale on dA they would find more easily a way to your wall?

Personally I wouldn't sell prints through DA simply because I dont accept the huge percentage they take. If you are going to do them yourself then take a fair amount of time to set your prices and here's a tip - include postage/shipping in the price, don't make it an extra cost. A single price keeps it simple and including shipping appears generous (it never costs that much to send a print anywhere). Don't do 'limited edition' print runs as the only way you can guarantee the limited run would be to destroy the original file after the run. If you are going to do 'limited edition' runs then make the edition per print size ie. 50xA4/ 50xA3 etc
Choose one brand of paper and stick with it. Invest in a good printer, preferably at least A2 (17"/43cm).
You may know all of this already I'll share anyway.
Always print your own just for the joy and the craft of it! :XD:

Yes yes yes! :D
Though I prefer to buy the service of a profesionnal printer (they don't touch my files) at this moment. I shall make prints for myself, for checking and own portfolio, archieves... anyway before I would sale a print to someone, I have to check it.
The paper quality of the prints I bought from dA a couple of years ago (there was a free freigth campagn) is quite poor. It gets old badly and freight costs for dA are very high for Europe.

Stephane, I bought an Epson 3800 a few years back (new model 3880 cost around 1200 euros) and I am more than happy with the results. I use Canson papers because I like the range and finish. To me these are worthwhile personal and business investments and I can only recommend choosing this path for yourself.

Tres bien!
